Saturday

This day started with the Band contest which Bill and I missed due to riding up to Montrose to pick up my motorcycle. By the time we got back we had missed the contest as well as Front Country and Peter Rowan's Twang an' Groove featuring Yungchen Lhamo. That's what was written - I have no idea what I missed, good, bad, or weird.

Punch Brothers - We did get back for this group and they are definitely not traditional bluegrass. They were pretty good, but not my cup of tea. Chris Thile plays with them.

Yonder Mountain String Band - Yeah, these guys are the real deal. Awesome music, great musicians. Just a great time of music.

Telluride Troubadour - This is a result of a contest during the weekend. Skipped it to get some dinner.

Andrew Bird & the Hands of Glory - Skipped most of this to finish dinner and change into warmer clothes. Uh, it was a little weird. Nuff said.

Sam Bush Band - Two hours of some of the best bluegrass I've ever heard. The guy went two hours non-stop. There's a reason people call him one of the hardest working musicians around. I know he's been here all but one year (that's 40, by the way) but he certainly is welcome every year. Sam Bush is funny and a great musician. There's a reason he played with so many acts over the weekend. Oh yeah, he brought out 10, count'em, ten mandolin players. It was a thing of beauty, but it took them a while to get sorted out!

Leftover Salmon featuring Bill Payne - Okay, not my cup of tea either - too much rockabilly and too loud, but I have to mention Bill Payne on the keyboard. That guy can rock! Co-founder of Little Feat, he is considered by many other piano rock musicians, including Elton John, to be one of the finest American piano rock and blues music artists. But as I said, it was too loud, so we left for the night.
