We stopped once on the way down just for a bathroom break and to stretch our legs a bit. What a beautiful area! While there we chatted with a couple and they mentioned a great place to eat at the Lochsa Lodge, which wasn't too far down the road. We had a nice long lunch there, chatted with some other bikers that had come up from the Las Vegas area. I may need to come here again with Vicki.
I'm sure glad that I had the new rock shield that I built before the trip. After lunch we ran into a fairly long stretch where they were resurfacing the road with chip seal, which is simply gravel and tar. It was sort of pleasant in a weird way to hear the constant pinging of rocks off the shield knowing that my pipe, oil filter, and oil cooler were nicely protected. Grant definitely wants one, so I'll help him with it at some point when we both have time.
After lunch, we got back on the road and headed into Kooskia (pronounced "koosky") and tried figure out what we were going to do next. Originally I thought we'd camp at the Hell's Canyon State Park. We went to a mexican restaurant in Kamiah to have dinner (where I nearly got sick from eating too much) and as we talked, we thought we'd camp at Orofino. So we headed that direction. As we got there, we found a nice place to camp, but gabbed more and decided we’d push on to Pullman since Bill knew someone there we could stay with.
