The weather was really nice the whole day we rode which was nice because this was a longer day than originally planned - 366 miles. But we got to set up our tents nice dry weather even if we were constantly attacked by squadrons of mosquitos. Some repellant took care of that, but they were still annoying.
After dinner we built a fire and sat around and "chewed the fat" as the saying goes. Last year it was just too hot and the fire danger such that we never did have a campfire, so this was nice. We finally called it a night at about 10:30pm. It was a good day.
Day 3 - Thursday, July 28, 2011
Because we didn't have a huge amount of miles to go, we slept in somewhat, but none of us could sleep past 6am or so. But with lots of time we took showers and got ready for breakfast, which our hosts provided again with great quality.
As I mentioned before, we asked our hosts about things to see between their place and Jasper, our next stop. They said to be sure and stop at Clearwater Falls just outside of Clearwater which was just a short distance away. That's not the actual name of the falls, but I didn't know that until we got there. The actual name is Spahat Falls and I found it to be pretty spectacular. I have never seen a set of double falls like this before. The first drop goes into a pool, then it flows down from there the final way. Riding bikes is great fun and the reason for going, but enjoying the ride for me is finding places like this. While getting ready to hit the road again, we got a good recommendation for lunch, so we had a target.
