We all got a great night’s sleep and got up for a leisurely start to the day. We chatted with Bill more and finally got on the bikes a little after 10am. Our plan is to run section 3 backwards from Cashmere to Ellensburg without luggage. See, we’re going to spend the night with Bill again since we’re heading back that way. First stop is Safeway to gas up, then ride the 12 miles down to Cashmere, turn south and start following the track along Mission Creek Road which turns into FR-7100. A little backstory is in order at this point. Before we left Spokane I checked with the Forest Service to see if 7100 was open all the way to Beehive Mountain which shows as washed out on the WABDR map. The website says it was open, so I made a track to follow and figured we’d pick it up. Otherwise, the maps show that it turns into Number 2 Canyon Road ("Peavine" in Google Maps) which eventually takes you into Wenatchee. The road leading from Cashmere was easy-peasy light sandy dirt and we bombed on up to the crossroads at the top, didn’t see anything telling us that we were at the right road east, so down we went. Right into Wenatchee. Say what? Well, since it was essentially lunch time we decided to run an errand to WalMart since Tim had some stuff to get. He also got a recommendation for lunch: Dizzy D’s which was on the way we wanted to go anyways, so we got there about 12:40pm and had lunch. Over lunch we decided since we were already in Wenatchee we might as well skip FR-7100 and just head over to Beehive

Mountain the way the map showed. Now, remember, I’m leading using the track on my Garmin. I looked for the purple line that showed the track, found it and started following it completely oblivious to the fact that I was following the way we already came. DOH!!
