Well, since we’re so close, let’s go ahead and try FR-7100. It was hard to find. The reason? It’s not a road any more. Instead it’s a single track that might lead to where we want to go but not something we were sure of. Rather than gamble, we went back to Wenatchee (for the second time) and followed the route properly this time and got on the road following Squilchuck Creek like we were supposed to. No problems on the road especially with no luggage.

Eventually we got up into the mountains and came across the landslide that I’d read about on the BDR and ADVrider sites. I went through the first little part and found a parked BMW with no rider. I couldn’t see anyone, so I did the next little bit which had about a four foot steep dropoff leading to a little uphill to the next part of the untouched road. Now I find the rider along with five other guys. They’re all on heavy bikes, the smallest of which is a KLR. With luggage there’s not a bike there under 500 lbs. and they’re having a rough go of getting through all the slide stuff. They made it through the first slide with the trees that had been cut, but this rock slide was tough. They were a nice bunch of guys, all from Boeing. We got them through and then continued on ourselves, after Dave gave a jump to my bike. When I got to the top and saw they needed help I had used the kill switch so I could hop off the bike and help right away. I forgot to go

back and turn the key off and thus ran the battery down. Dave of course was tickled that he got to use his jumper cables.

Tim: This was also a section I had worried about. I was sure that the mudslide would be really tough to deal with. When we met up with the Boeing riders I wasn’t

too sure but when I looked the part they were struggling with I figured our smaller bikes would do just fine. It turned out that way too. I had no problems getting through that section.
