Time to get back on the road. So we're heading down 93 toward Radium Hot Springs, when I see a familiar sign. Back in 1968 on a family camping trip, my parents stopped at Marble Canyon to take a look at the channel that has been carved through the limestone. Later on my honeymoon, Vicki and I stopped here to see it again. To keep up the tradition, I stopped again. I remember it being in deep dark woods with a trail that crisscrosses the canyon with bridges allowing great views of the channel. Quite a difference from the last time because in 2003 there was a huge fire that swept through Kootenay National Park burning 170 square kilometers (roughly 43,000 acres) of forest.
As you can see from the pictures you can see for quite a distance, but the canyon is still spectacular.
We left there and eventually headed into Radium Hot Springs. Again, here's another instance that we should have taken pictures, but it was so hot that we grabbed our stuff and got in the pool pretty quick. Dave and I went over to the cold pool and did some middle-age whale diving. At least I got the lifeguard laughing. We marinated in there for a while until tender, and then headed off to the villiage itself for some dinner. We ate at the Horsethief Creek Pub, for a very nice dinner. Again, it pays to ask the locals for the best places to eat.
