We finally arrived at Banff. Now you'd think that with such a picturesque town we'd take pictures. Even of our campsite. Well, we were pretty hungry so that didn't happen. We waited in line for an hour to get registered for our campsite which turned out to be very nice. Did I mention that this weekend is a three-day weekend in Canada and one of their busiest for the summer? Also, we lost an hour crossing the timezone into Mountain Time which we forgot. We asked the guy at the registration booth for a good place for steaks and he recommended Bumpers. So I popped it into my trusty GPS and it guided us to a nearly empty restaurant. Almost empty on a Friday night? It seemed odd until someone reminded us of the time change. They were nearly closing, but they let us in and gave us a great dinner. I had this wonderful prime rib smothered in mushrooms, a big baked potato and a very good salad bar. Needless to say we all slept well that night!
Day 5 - Saturday, July 30, 2011
Now we were really into great weather. We woke up to sunshine and mountains. After getting showers and breaking camp, we headed into Banff for breakfast. You'd think from this picture that we ate at the Maple Leaf, but we didn't. We ate across the street at a place I can't remember but will put in here when one of the other guys reminds me. I had the best french toast I've ever had. The bread was double-thickness and sliced part of the way and stuffed with your choice of tasty things. I had Back Bacon (what we call Canaidian Bacon) and swiss cheese in one and mixed berries in the other. It. Was. Awesome.
But enough about food. We took off and visited Bow Falls first since it was practically in Banff. Bow Falls is on the Bow River just before it merges with the Spray River. It's interesting to look downstream where they merge because for awhile it looks like they run side-by-side without merging, so defined is the water color from each. There is a rafting tour place right there and there was a group of people getting ready to go as we took pictures.
