We headed out of town past Kerr campground which was a possible stopping spot and on up to Cooper Mountain. We saw some nice spots along the way, but we had decided to ride until 7pm and make camp at the closest spot to that time. We ended up camping at a wide open crossroads where our road (Cooper Mountain Road) intersected with Grade Creek Road which was at about 5640 feet. We all wished that the smoke was gone because it would have been a beautiful evening of looking at the stars. Dave and I got on the phone with our wives, but my connection was really spotty and I kept breaking up even though I could hear Vicki loud and clear. While we were setting up camp, a young Ukrainian man named Paul rode up on a Yamaha TW200 and chatted with us for a bit. A nice young man vacationing with his folks probably over at Poison Springs campground. Incidentally, that was one of the places we were originally looking for. But I’m pretty happy we camped where we did – no neighbors! Since we had eaten dinner in Chelan, we just prepped for breakfast in the morning, sat around talking until it was fully dark, and then hit the sack.
