We walked from the Ponderosa Motel to the Terminal Gravity Brewing Company for a beer and some dinner, but the kitchen had just closed. No amount of weedling and whining was going to make a difference so the guys finished their beers and we walked over to La Laguna which was recommended to us. Dave called ahead to see if they would still be open late on a Sunday night, and the owner said sure come on in. The owner "Angel" was a great hostess and made the best fajitas I've ever had. When my brother Dave wanted something hotter than what was on the table, she obliged by bringing out her special homemade spicy sauce. She warned Dave about only using a drop or two, so I decided to give it a try too. I put the smallest little micro-dot on my finger and touched it to my tongue. It's hard to descibe what was going on in my nerve endings, but the result in my brain was like the robot from "Lost in Space" - DANGER! DANGER! Everybody laughed and Angel brought me a piece of lime and said to put salt on it and suck on it. Miraculously it worked! Within a few seconds my mouth was fine, but my brain was still trying to catalog the sensation, warning me not to do that again. I told Angel that I'm a pretty wimpy gringo when it comes to that level of heat. It was a great evening and dinner and we told her we'd recommend this place to any and all concerned. By the time we got back to the motel it was 11pm and time to hit the sack.

We got up Monday morning about the same time as Sunday and by 8am were heading the few miles south into Joseph for breakfast. Joseph is what I would call an "artsy" town. It's beautiful, clean, and on every corner of the main street through town there are bronze statues. We ate breakfast at Red Horse Coffee Traders where we met Austin from Boise riding a nice looking BMW RT1200R. He had come up from the south end through Halfway, Oregon which we had been told was closed. To our chagrin it was open and clean - we'll take this on another trip. After breakfast we rode down to Wallowa Lake which is the gem of the area. The water is crystal clear and must have good fishing as evidenced by the boats on the north end of the lake. I decided that I would be back here with Vicki some time.
