Heading back we stopped at the gravesite of Old Chief Joseph, who was the principal leader of the Wallowa Nez Perce during the mid-1800's. We continued back through Enterprise and headed north on highway 3 toward Clarkston.click to enlarge This takes us through the Rattlesnake Canyon area which is extremely rugged but has one of the best roads in this part of the country for motorcycles. We stopped at the top to admire the view, then tackled the south end of the road which bottoms out at Boggin's Oasis. A short stop to catch our breath and talk about how much fun that was, then off again up the northern side. I've been on this road before but was having too much fun to stop and take pictures.click to enlarge This time I remembered and stopped to capture a bit of the view from the top looking down on the twisting nature of the road. So much fun!! Onward across the farmland at the top, then down again through a short twisty path into Asotin and then on to Clarkston.click to enlarge There is this interesting sculpture made from canoes just across the river. Someone really had a creative thought when they came up with that. After a burger at DQ, we took off for home via highway 193 along the Snake River, through Pullman, Garfield, Oakesdale, Rosalia, Spangle, then Spokane.

This was a great weekend trip. Sunday was the best single day of riding I have had yet on my motorcycle. It was a combination of beautiful vistas, challenging roads, good weather, and great friends. And that was just one route that we took. Realizing we missed the road from Halfway we decided that another weekend jaunt the opposite of Monday's route could be taken and then we could loop back up through McCall, Idaho through Whitebird Pass. Anyways, by the time I got home my trip meter showed 900.8 miles and only a small percentage of it was uninteresting. I would definitely head down to this area again any time!
